Google/Yahoo Ad Campaign Challenge

4-23-07

I was thinking the other day that it would be cool to put the Goolge and Yahoo ad systems into a contest to see which one is better.  By "better", I mean that I wanted to know which search engine I should use to generate the most traffic to my website, for the least amount of money.  This question lead to the idea of the challenge.

Rules:
  1. Every page created for this site will be submitted to Google Adwords and Yahoo Marketing Solutions.
  2. A separate campaign will be created for each submission.
  3. Each submission will have a limit of $1 per day for advertisements, with a maximum of $.50 per click.
  4. Results will look at number of impressions, actual clicks that directed traffic to my site, and the average cost for each visitor directed to the site.
  5. Each ad campaign will use an identical set of key words and descriptions on ads.

For example, I will submit this page to both Google and Yahoo as an advertisement with the following features:

Site: http://www.slowcommotion.com
Main Description:  Which search advertiser should you use?
Secondary Description: See the results of a head to head comparison.
Keywords: Ads, click, pay-per-click, traffic, advertisement, campaign, search, cost, money

It should be interesting to see what happens.  It seem kind of weird to be spending $2 a day to get people to come to this site, but you can't get noticed on the web otherwise.  Check back later to see who is ahead.

Until then...

Ad Challenge Update 4-25-07
So far Google is winning with 5 clicks compared to Yahoo's 2.  At the same time though, Yahoo is much cheaper with only $.13 per click compared to Google's $.41 per click.  And to make things more complicated, Yahoo showed the ad 10,000 times while Google only showed it 2,453.  Does that mean people are more likely to click on a Google ad?
